About Maker Generations

A living collection of family recipes, passed down through generations and shared with others. Because the best recipes are never just about food — they are about people, place and memory.

Some of the most important things are never written down

They are learned by watching. By doing. By standing beside someone at the kitchen counter.

Maker Generations began with memories of time spent in the kitchen, baking alongside a mother who made without fuss, without recognition, but with care.

Recipes weren’t followed from a book. They were known by instinct. A handful of flour. A pinch of salt. Made the same way each time, yet never exactly the same.

There were stories too, of baking on open fires, of bread made with the simplest of ingredients, of neighbours calling in, and something always being shared.

Years later, those same moments began again, this time baking with a daughter. Buns, cakes, breads. Time set aside. Something made together.

In those moments, it became clear how easily these traditions could be lost, and how important they are to keep.

Maker Generations was born from a simple question: what happens when those before us are gone? When the last person who knew the recipe by heart is no longer at the table?

We built this platform so that no family recipe has to disappear. So that heritage can be shared, discovered, and carried forward — one recipe at a time.

Maker Generations is a way to capture the recipes, the memories, and the stories that live within them.

Each recipe adds to a growing collection of shared experience.

Keeping traditions alive

We are on a mission to keep traditions alive, creating the world’s most meaningful recipe collection. Not the largest, but the most human.

Not just what was baked, but who baked it, where it came from, and why it mattered.

Maker Generations aims to:

  • Preserve family baking traditions
  • Encourage time spent baking together
  • Create a shared space where stories can be passed forward
  • Build a living archive of recipes from Ireland and beyond

We map recipes by geography and era so you can explore the culinary heritage of places and time.

We pair each recipe with the story behind it, because context is what turns ingredients into meaning.

We also believe that great baking deserves great tools. That’s why we curate equipment and ingredient kits matched to each recipe, so you have everything you need to bake with confidence.

Every recipe added becomes part of something larger — a record of everyday heritage that might otherwise be lost.

Our values

Heritage

Every recipe tells a story. Recipes are part of our cultural memory — the knowledge passed down through kitchens deserves to be preserved and shared.

Community

Baking brings people together. This is a space where people can contribute, connect, and recognise their own traditions in the stories of others.

Craft

We value the care and skill that goes into baking. Whether in a professional kitchen or around a family table, the making matters.

Continuity

This is about passing things forward. From one generation to the next, keeping the recipes and the memories that live within them alive.
