I used to love baking this apple tart with Granny Nan. She never measured anything and used her hands always to guage the amount of ingredients needed. It always came out of the oven perfect. We would often bake this for a Sunday dessert or just a treat with a cuppa on a cold day.

1

Sieve flour, salt and sugar into a bowl.

2

Add margarine

3

Mix with hands (fingertips only) until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

4

Add the water gradually until it turns to dough.

5

Place in the fridge until 10 minutes at least.

6

Cut the apples into small pieces and place in a saucepan with 3 tablespoons spoons of water and 3 tablespoons of sugar. Stew until softened.

7

Roll out the pastry to fit the chosen pie dish and make sure to keep enough to make the pie cover.

8

When the pie bottom is covered spoon the softened apples into the base of the pie. Cover the pie with the remaining rolled pastry. Join the pastry around the edges and pierce the top of the pie gently to allow trapped steam to escape.

9

Leave the whole apple tart in the over for approx 30 minutes. Gas mark 7.
